Overview

Public input is important in the development of council activities, plans and policies.

This is to ensure they reflect the aspirations of residents, iwi, community groups and businesses – everyone who has a vested interest in Auckland’s future.

We want to know how and when you expect to be involved in shaping these kinds of decisions. Click on the documents link above to read the draft policy and supporting information.

You can have your say from Monday 22 September to Sunday 19 October 2014.

Why are we consulting?

As part of the Long-term Plan 2012-2022 process, Auckland Council approved a Significance Policy to provide a mechanism for establishing which decisions are significant with reference to thresholds and general criteria. This was a requirement under the Local Government Act (LGA) 2002 and the policy requires all council reports to state the degree of significance.

The Local Government Act 2002 Amendment Act 2014 amended the LGA 2002, so that all councils are now required to adopt a significance and engagement policy by 1 December 2014.

The legislative change requires the council to expand the current Significance Policy to include engagement. The current Significance Policy has been used to provide the basis of the new Significance and Engagement Policy.
