Advisor / Senior Advisor - New Zealand Sign Language

ODI is looking for an Advisor/Senior Advisor to join our team. You will support the promotion and maintenance of New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) by providing secretariat support to the new NZSL Advisory Board, administering the NZSL Fund and promoting and advising on NZSL across the Ministry of Social Development and other government departments.


You will be fluent in NZSL, have in-depth experience of Deaf culture, be well-organised and possess good writing skills. Applicants who are deaf/disabled or relate to a deaf/disabled person, have knowledge and experience of the Deaf community/disability sector, understanding of the deaf Maori community and have some understanding of how government works are encouraged to apply.


The Office for Disability Issues (ODI) provides independent advice and monitoring on disability issues across government. ODI is the focal point within Government for disability and a point of contact for disabled people, their families and non-government organisations.
It is also the secretariat for the NZSL Advisory Board and the NZSL Fund.


You will also contribute to the work with the ODI team to promote implementation of the Disability Action Plan, Disability Strategy and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities across government.
